Actor/comedian Ricky Gervais promises to keep his Golden Globes monologue tasteful but won’t be afraid of a little “gentle ribbing” at the expense of other major names.

“Any one who’s younger and thinner and richer and more attractive than me; that’s the ones I’m going for,” he told reporters during a conference call interview Tuesday.

Gervais will host the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 17, 2010. The show will air on NBC, and Gervais, who doesn’t currently use Twitter, is considering setting up an account specifically to connect with fans during the show.

“Maybe I’ll do one especially for the Golden Globes,” he said. “That would be fun.”

His only worry is that he may accidentally write the wrong thing and offend someone.

“I’ve got an iPhone, and I’ve got fat fingers. The spelling mistakes would be horrendous.”

While it is obvious that Gervais will be rooting for “The Office,” the NBC comedy hit that Gervais is an executive producer on, to take home some golden statues, he is also looking forward to seeing if some of his favorite shows, “Damages” and “Dexter,” will win big.

“I think they’re both audacious shows,” he said. “I’ve never seen anything quite like ‘Dexter.’ I think it’s funny, it’s exciting. It’s one of the best ensemble pieces I’ve seen.”

Gervais won’t be out of the picture once the Golden Globes dust settles. He has several new projects set for next year, including a new film that he has written and directed named “Cemetery Junction.” He calls it the best thing he has ever done.

Another project Gervais is looking forward to is the animated version of his comedic hit “The Ricky Gervais Show.” HBO plans to release the series, and Gervais believes that it could be the next “Simpsons.”

“Only this time, Homer Simpson is a real live person!”
